FAQs

Emmons has expanded the garden pond section of the store three times since 1995.

We have over two hundred fresh and saltwater aquariums.

Steven and his dad, Bob had a pet skunk at the store in the early days. Her name was Samantha.

Pet skunks are no longer legal to sell in the State of Connecticut.

Emmons Tropicals was the first fish store in Connecticut to offer the new genetically engineered Zebra Glo Fish. This fish was banned from importation into the state of California, mainly for fear of these altered fish being released into the wild and having some adverse effect on the ecosystem.

We at Emmons strongly feel no species of animal or plant not native to an ecosystem be released into the wild. Goldfish and other non-native species of fish have survived in places where they did not originate, causing many problems for the indigenous inhabitants of these environments. Many non- native species of plants, mainly Water Hyacinths, plague some southern states; clogging waterways and smothering native flora. Even in the North many species thrive where they should not. More often than not these infestations occur because of the lack of knowledge on the part of humans.
